has anyone ever actually been through the rules with him? even sunday league refs know that if you bring the last man on goal down in the area, a penalty is awarded and the offender is sent off. dowd is either a cheat or a coward. he did the same thing in the carling cup semi-final. shame on him

phil dowd is not good enough for the sunday league ,heskey goes down easy but that was a penalty,he should have been sent off, or heskey should have been off for diving,he is a coward if he was in any other job he would be sacked wigan should have been the first team to beat the cheats at the emirates, reffs seem to the untouchables something should be done ,he should not keep getting away with it its costing wigan points and rising hes bank account

That is the rule if that foul has been committed in those circumstances, I assume you are talking about the Heskey incident.

It wasn't a black and white one that is for sure, there was contact but it was minimal. The question is whether or not it was enough to bring Heskey down, he wasn't at full speed, so it would of taken a proper trip or pull to take him down and I didn't really see that. The assistant was right in line and would've had the perfect view and he didn't give it and because it wasn't a black/white decision then I don't think you can blame Phil Dowd too much.

Last Super Sunday at White Hart Lane, there were two stonewall penalties turned down and then a dive given, that was poor refereeing by Mark Clattenberg.

Dowd's performance wasn't too great, he was fussy, booked too many and didn't play nearly enough added time but on the 'penalty' incident, it wasn't that bad a decision, could've gone either way.

Rules are one thing, seeing and interpretation is the other

It's not that he doesn't know the rules, he didn't think it was a penalty, perhaps thinking Heskey went to ground to easily or that there wasn't contact, from where he was on the field

BUT, even Wenger said after the match that he's all for the use of video technology to assist referees and linesmen with these calls

And both Arsenal goals were offside, the first one marginally, but the second one, Rosicky was a mile offside when the ball was played to the wing, and ok he may have not been interfering at that time, but he certainly was interfering when he scored.
