You would also need a high-bandwidth internet connection for the server if you plan to have a lot of visitors. Such a connection can be quite pricey.

It depends, yes and no.
Yes because you could get a domain name, which is like a .com name for your website. Also, if you were to get a premium hosting package with your website, you could have to pay for it.
No because there are free webhosting providers out there. One of which is Freewebs. (http://FreeWebs.com) You would have a sub domain name. (Freewebs.com/yourname.)

Well to have a website like www.yahoo.com or www.ebay.com websites cost money... But anglefire and some other websites let you make a website for free... ( they will have avertisments on your pages ) hope this helps!

Go to www.tripod.com and you can put up a free site. They will use your site to post adds that they get paid for so that your site is free to you.
If you want a domain name it will cost you money.
