I don't have any experience whatsoever with WoW, since I'm not a fan of RPGs, but I can tell you that Burning Cusade, I think greatly is an Expansion/Booster Pack, and those need the core versionof the game, which would be the original game.
So the answer, should be yes. Check online just in case though ;)

Yea you do. Burning crusade is an expansion pack not the game itself so yes you do need the original WoW game then buy Burning crusade.

yes you both need an active account, which is activated with an original WoW CD key (Accounts are then upgraded with the BC CD key). and an install of the original WoW on your computer to be able to install it.
