Oh lord yes.. Ball Pythons can be very finicky. My male Ball , he's 2 in April has usually given me no problems, but last November/Dec he didn't want to eat. It was breeding season and it was like his body knew it, he just did not want to eat. He's back on track eating again thankfully. They can go a while without eating, but if he starts losing weight he needs to go on to the vet, there may be something wrong.

I have four ball pythons. Flippy the oldest at 7 will only eat small amounts when it is cold. Taylor, 4 will eat a full grown rat every two weeks. Dot and Nodot 8 months eat every week. I believe it depends on the animal. They all have different personalities and you just have to adapt if you have not owned them their whole lives. Flippy was abused by his previous owner, (they put the rat in the cage with him for days without any food for the rat).

90% of the Ball Pythons I've ever owned had one feeding problem or another. Sometimes it's because they are getting ready to shed. Once I had a wild-caught one that didn't eat for 9 months until the weather got warmer and I figured out his natural food was gerbils, not mice. He was fine. The only thing I can advise - be persistant and keep trying new things to get him/her to eat.

Wild caught ones tend to be more finicky eaters than captive bred ones but it isnt uncommon for them to stop eating in the winter and not start again until late spring. Unless your snake is younger than one year of age or under weight, this fast should not pose any problems for your snake. Consult your local veterinarian if you think that your snakes' fast has been too long or your snake appears to be losing weight. Not all ball pythons will fast during the winter.

They can be very finicky. Usually fasting can be caused by breeding, shedding, or temperature drop, or your snake can eat just fine through all of these (just to be ornery!). I got a book when I was getting my first and there are two documented cases of balls not eating fo 22 months!

I agree with a previous answer - as long as it doesn't continue for an excessively long period, the snake isn't a baby, and there isn't noticeable weight loss, your snake will be fine. Just make sure it has adequate heat (not a hot rock!), water, and humidity (when it sheds).

Interesting question. We have a 2yo ball that was a picky eater, then ate weekly. The last time he has eaten was late Oct. We called the shop where we purchased him and he said that they are notorious finicky eaters and that 4 months is not unusual.
