please help with some audio recording problems? PLEASE READ!?

i want to record the sound off a online video (youtube) so i can put the audio on my ipod. i just want a simple free software download. i dont have a microphone or sound record. but im not like super computer smart....so i cant understand how to encrypt this and that and remove this...so please help

windows sound recorder is not great for long-term recording ie. longer than 60 seconds.

If you have Windows XP, you already have a sound recorder. It's called "sound recorder", and you can record the audio from a youtube video in to a .wav file. I just did it. Some sort of Pokemon theme, which was the first thing that showed up on YouTube when I searched for music.

On your PC, do Start, All Programs, Accessories, Entertainment. The two things you need to click on are "Volume Control" and "Sound Recorder".

First, you have to set the "Recording Control" portion of your Volume Control. When it opens, it's set for the playback portion. Just do Options, Properties, and click Recording. Then, in the "Recording Control" window, turn off (unselect) everything except "Wave Out Mix". Make sure the volume control is only about 20- to 25% of the way up, not all the way up.

Then start Sound Recorder, click the red button to start the recording, and start the video in the browser window where you have surfed to YouTube. Watch the waveform in the Sound Recorder window -- if you're getting clipping, or if it's not loud enough, adjust the volume slider for "Wave Out Mix" so you get a decent recording. You will need to play around with it for a while.

After you get the .wav file, I think you will need to convert it to an mp3. That should be easy, I have done it but not recently so I can't walk you thru that one.

Edit -- MS says that Windows Media Player 10 includes a converter from .wav to .mp3. No time right now to check it out...
