just wanted an opinion because I am in a book club and we were discussing this, what do you think?

Well, I think I need to reread this book (sheesh, I can't even remember how old I was when I read it)...

But--correct me if I'm wrong--isn't much of the way the government works based on clever deception and the use of force/brainwashing in order to get people to believe in their fallacies?

Winston's job was to help change the history books/newspapers to update the "facts", wasn't it? And didn't part of his internal/external conflict deal with whether he should blindly aid in that deception or not?
