Do you have an hour to read a 5 page list of games? Okay, I'll make it short by picking out my absolute-favorites, in no particular order:
Shinobi III (favorite Genesis game)
Revenge of Shinobi
Streets of Rage 1 ~ 3

Street Fighter II: CE

Sonic 1 ~ 3
Sonic & Knuckles
Columns
Phantasy Star 2 ~ 4

Shining Force
Castlevania: Bloodlines (2nd favorite Genesis game)
Contra Hard Corps
Herzog Zwei
Gain Ground
Thunderforce Series
And, that's just off the top of my head. I bet if I go through my collection of games, I'll find another awesome game I forgot.

Wow... that's a toughie. You know, back in the day the Sega Genesis console didn't nearly get as much credit as it was due, and regardless of what the media thought, the Sega CD was a phenomenal attachment, and light-years ahead of it's competition. Although the 32x was a flop, Sega (at least IMO) was the best out there.
Now as for the actual games, I thought that whenever a game came out for both Sega & SNES, that the Sega version was the better of the two. Sure SNES versions may have had slightly better graphics, but there was just something about the Sega versions that we more fun and enjoyable to play.
But without further ado, here are my favorite picks.
RPG: Shining Force & Landstalker
Action: Gunstar Heroes & Dynamite Heady
Fighter: Mortal Kombat II
Platformer: Earthworm Jim & Aladdin (you know that game was just pure fun)

Ooooooh good one. I was going to say desert strike but i think the one i played most was Flashback. Way ahead of its time with a decent storyline and graphics AND addictive gameplay. I loved that bloody game(sniff)

Streets of Rage probably... Game scared the hell out of me when I was younger, but I was addicted to it.
