at what point do we make changes in our personal lives, and at what cost?

Speaking from my own personal experience, I think most people make changes in their personal lives when their back is against the wall.
Specifically, until we are seriously stressed in our personal lives, we are generally content to coast!

For example, when my husband's health was in serious jeopardy, after a year of being stressed and worried almost constantly, I had to make some sort of change in my own life or I might have snapped! So, I started out going to the gym a few times a week as a stress buster, and ended up losing the weight I needed to lose and getting into the best shape of my life. (and it did really help with my perspective on my husband's health issues, too!)
