hopefully your dvd rom drive is intergrated in the laptop in other words its attached to the actual laptop and not by usb or pcmcia device
in this situation i would first try a system restore to before the cd rom dissapeared, sometimes this can solve the problem as a restore will load the settings from when the cd rom was on the laptop
another way is to go to the system properties>hardware>device manager and were the dvd rom drive is right click and uninstall the device, then you need to restart the laptop
when the laptop restarts windows should find the dvd rom and display "found new hardware" and load the appropriate drivers
if the dvd rom drawer opens insert a disc if you can before windows starts up so there is media in the drive, may help the drive get recognized by windows
try these,as these are probally the only options you have next to a recovery using the system recovery disk, which is a last resort
good luck

Firstly, what disk driver are we talking about? It's not a Driver BTW, it's a drive. So is it the CD Drive or the 3.5" Floppy disc drive?

then we have to know if it's built into the laptop, or is it a USB one that you plug in.

If it is an external one, can you plug it into an other computer to see if it works or not?

If it's internal, can you start the computer from it, from a bootable disc??

Get back to us with more info.

delete the driver from the device manager first.. the driver should then self reinstall.. But might be you just have a bad drive..

(you didnt say which disk.. I'm assuming CD.. but same for floppy if they still make those LOL)

If it is a driver that you are missing, try going to http://drivers.softpedia.com/ to download it.

Also right click on My Computer, go to Properties, the Hardware tab, and than click on device manager. You may be able to update it from there. Look for the device with the yellow question mark

Just re-install the driver. You can download it from the manufacturer's website.

DO A SYSTEM RESTORE ON IT. GO TO START THEN ALL PROGRAMS THEN GO TO ACCESSORIES THEN GO TO SYSTEM TOOLS THEN GO TO SYSTEM RESTORE AND GO BACK AS FAR AS YOU CAN REMEMBER WHEN YOU HAD IT LAST THE PC WILL RESET ALL THE DRIVES TO WHERE THEY WAS BEFORE YOU LOST IT.
