Majoring in political science is my dream, not only because it is what I would love to work in but also because it does not sound that practical.
I'm choosing between going to Berea College to pursue PS or going to Adams State College (I am gauranteed admisison at ASC and about 90% gauranteed at B) to pursue either nursing or teaching. I would go to a different school because ASC doesn't have a political science major and B does not operate in the area where I would work as an adult with my degree. My dream job: to be the next Ken or John Salazar, or at least be the mayor of a small town in the SLV someday.
Any advice of which school to go to or what career to eventually pursue?
What I enjoy about PS:
Standing up for what I believe in
Defending those I believe in and representing those who do not have a voice
Helping people, but those who are willing to help themselves too
Making a difference
Debating itself
And as far as earnings go, I could really care less.

1. I'm a conservative democrat
2. Even though I'm a female, I actually have the merit to go to college; I'm not your typical affirmative action qualifier. Thus, I deserve to apply to college without AA assistance, thank you. I do not need to waste my life flipping burgers.

I really do not care about how much money I make in life; I could easily, and happily, live off of $25,000 a year. And yes, I have the experience to know that for a fact.
In any event, time and money have the same value to me, in most situations.

And the reason why I do not want to go to an elite school: 1. I like being around democrats (thus, cheap, low standard, diverse schools)
2. Berea is both, a christian (R) and low income (D) school, which might be an interesting combination.
Political science is something that I realised a few years ago when I advocated for the elimination of extra credit for buying things and going to events at my school. I wrote several letters, polled students/teachers, and ended up in a meeting with the entire teaching staff at my school and then later, with the supernintendant (*sp). And I was successful. Ever since then it has grown and grown.
No, I am not having second doubts. At the very least, the degree would be unbelievablt enrichment even if I did end up working at Mickey Ds. At least I would be an educated vote.

I would say that if you've gotten that far in Political Science, then go for a teaching career at a college or University. They are really starving for good political science instructors where I live. They usually get retired police officers with degrees in political science, but they won't be working forever. I'm sure you'd be good at it, and I'm a Conservative. You sound so interesting.

A politician's aid, working for a government policy agency, working for a PAC, working at Sizzler. There are many jobs you would qualify for(I include Sizzler because I had a friend that graduated as a Poly Sci major who ended up running one)
Edit - ignore Nadie, thats an alias. I've gotten nearly the same message on questions that had no reference to Arabs.
One thing I would like to point out, how do you lump all Christians as Republicans and all the poor students as Democrats? Maybe you should delve into your political beliefs a little further, because this sounds like the stereotyping that H. Clinton and Pelosi and their ilk are constantly doing. I admit that Conservative Christians are mostly Rebublican, but even I know a few that have families that were Dems their whole life. Lumpin the poor students as Democrats though?
Good luck on your studies.

Sure. You can work as a campaign manager for a State Representative candidate or something along those lines. Win. And then have a track record to move to a Congressional campaign. Win. And then establish a career as a professional campaign manager. Problem is: How do you win? When you're ready young Jedi. Come see the Master.

A political science degree is basically useless unless you persue higher education, ie: A Law Degree or a masters and then a PHD in Politcal Science. Of your two choices you need to determine which of two things is more important to you Time or Money. Nurses make very good money but have very little time because they are working odd hours double shifts holidays and weekends. Teachers on the other hand have more time but make less money.

You really want to give effective of help to people get your political science degree but then join the peace corp. That gives you a chance to help people who really need it as directly as you possibly can. You will see the result of your hard work. Politics doesn't really help anyone it's all about getting elected and/or re elected and how to waste taxpayer money. Not to mention all the lying and cheating. Politics is legalized crime.

you should have studied harder because those schools are not well known regardless of major. as for your dreams, forget them because once you get involved in politics, you will shut off opportunities to the other 50% (the other political party). second you will have to sign over your soul to be successful in said profession. better off going to college, getting drunk, starting in one of those girls gone wild videos and finding that "MRS" that all the girls want by graduation...living up to your aspirations
