I would firstly try by asking the elderly people who attend their church. Memories of old people are a useful part of history.
It may be worth visiting the town planning office to check for records of any building alterations that have been made.
Old photographs and books on local history will help too.
Most libraries have a local history section, try there.
Also ask the vicar as he may be able to tell you about other people in the area who may know useful information.

Have you tried the local reference library?

Failing that, the local Archives or Record Office.
