take the width as x and the length as 2x
40.5 = 2x x x
40.5 = 2x(squared)
20.25 = x(squared)
x = 4.5
length = 9
width = 4.5

area = 40.5 sq ft
x = width
2x = length
(2x)(x) = 40.5 sq ft
2x^2 = 40.5
x^2 = 20.25 (divide both sides by 2)
x = 4.5 (find sq root of both sides)
width = x = 4.5 ft
length = 2x = 9 ft
4.5 ft x 9 ft

since length is twice as breadth, l=2b
40.5=2b*b
40.5=2b*b
