I stopped smoking 6 years ago and I was a heavy smoker who smoked for twenty five years. my advice is to belive that cigarette do nothing for you at all and that the next one creates the desire for the next and so on.
if you are scared of the thought that you can never have another cigarette, then imagine the thought that can never stop. If you smoke another then you wont.

I wouldn't give up the patches just yet. They were a godsend for me, and I still had difficulty with cravings!

Identify your triggers and quit them for a while. For example, I always smoked when I drank coffee so I had to stop drinking coffee for a while.

Throw away all cigarettes--even unopened packs, empty out all ashtrays (throw the ashtrays away, too!) so you can't smoke any butts which may still have some tobacco left in them.

You will gain weight. Don't worry about it right now; deal with the weight gain AFTER you are comfortable with being smoke free.

Now that you are smoke free, pay attention to the way smokers smell. You wouldn't have noticed it while you were smoking, but the smell is horrible! Think about what you smelled like as a smoker.

Plan a reward for yourself. I took my kids to Disney World as a celebration of six months of not smoking.

Most of all, don't give up. If you smoke one cigarette, it is very likely that you will keep smoking. Remember the hell you are going through and remind yourself that you don't want to put yourself through the quitting process again. (That's how I dealt with the bad cravings!)

Good luck! You can definitely do this!

If your smoking 1/2 pack a day or less the patch can help

Over a pack a day, for most folks it won't work

Remember if you don't suceed, your only normal

CONGRADS!! I myself have not had a cig in 7 days! I have smoked for 26 years. I did not go with the patches. I've used them before and they did not work for me. I quit cold turkey and I'm doing fine. Keep this in mind, it helps me. Cigs are drugs and I'm stronger than that. NO puff today!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try this site.

There are also lots of ways to get motivated. Think of your friends and family, did you know second-hand smoke is worse than smoking the cigarette itself. And no matter how hard you try you can't get the smell of cigarette smoke out of your clothes. And also think of all the health benifets of quitting. Your doing good, just remember to NEVER give up.

think of every smoke as a candy that will make you gain weight, get yellow teeth, smell bad, get wrinkles, and loose any relationship you will ever be in. If that doesn't work then go to a priest ,and he will give you better advice. :)

Good for you, I think its all in the mind, you must tell yourself that you are the boss of your body, and you can control your habits, tell your cigaretts that you are the boss of them, throw them away, every time you feel like smoking, do something else to get your mind off of it!
