2) heal

-1 is true because skin cells constantly undergo mitosis to replace old and dead cells
-2 is true because that's just how things grow
-3 cells undergo MEIOSIS to make gametes, which, when fertilized, make offspring
-4 is iffy.....cells don't undergo mitosis to heal themselves, but if you have a cut or something, you need to produce cells to heal that area, and that would occur through mitosis.
My best guess would be 3. It just depends on how you read into 3 and 4.....but with the way it sounds to me, I'd go with 3 being untrue.

Some of the answers will depend upon the type of organism you are studying. I have included explanations with the answers to help you decide which are true in the cases you study.
#3 is false - mitosis is not used in producing offspring unless it is asexual reproduction.
#4 is false - if you imply that one single cell is healing itself. Injured cells die - they do not heal. Other healthy cells multiply around the area to take the place of the injured cell.
#1 is correct - to replace body cells which die.
#2 is correct - to multiply for an organism to grow.
#3 is correct - if you are looking at lower forms of life which depend on mitosis for asexual reproduction.
#4 is correct - if you imply that it is for the body to heal a wound.

3. Cells undergo mitosis in order to produce offspring.
false.
Meiosis is the process which splits genes into gametes, which are used in offspring.
Mitosis is the process which cells split into 2 identical cells, which can
1) replace old or dead cells
2) expand the organic material in an organism (aka growing)
4) heal wounds (for example, if skin was scraped, Mitosis would occur to replace these cells).

From these four choices, I suspect your instructor wants you to choose #3. In order to reproduce sexually, cells must undergo MEIOSIS to make reproductive cells or gametes.
However, that statement is not entirely false because mitosis allows organisms to reproduce asexually - like sponges or cnidarians reproducing by budding.

3 is incorrect. Meiosis is the process to produce reproductive cells, at least in higher animals.
