Frilends and acquaintances who are recent retirees often drop in -- always without calling -- to my workplace in order to go for coffee and talk. And talk and talk and talk.

I'm still working; they aren't. I have projects and deadlines. I get into trouble with my boss when these guys refuse to take my hints and end our coffee break. I don't want to hurt their feelings, but...

What's your advice?

Stop hinting!
Just say in a firm voice, "Thanks for dropping by! Sorry, (name) but that is it for the coffee break, I have got to get back to work!"
"We will see you!"
Then do it!
