According to Robert Kiyosaki (Rich Dad Poor Dad) the business wave of the 21st century will be multi-level marketing. Far from being the door-to-door direct sales plans of yesteryear, the better one's have been updated to take advantage of the web, courier deliveries and modern business practices to become virtual businesses, where you purchase for your own account, and get other people to do the same.

As anywhere else in life, you will get the schemers, so be on the lookout for schemes where you have to make large joining fees, or make large stock purchases up front. You shouldn't pay more then GBP100-200.

Be on the lookout for something with an excellent training system, a wide variety of products, and a long history. I have been with Amway for a couple of year's, and they are an excellent company, with more than 3 million Independent Business Owners that have renewed at least once.

One of the people who has answered your question mentions Robert Kiyosaki and I agree with him that today network marketing is the fastest growing industry in the world. Also Robert Kiyosaki has just co-written a book along with the American billionaire Donald Trump call Why we want you to be rich. Now it so happens that Donald Trump has also recently endorsed one business, which he describes as probably the best in the world today for its ethics, honesty and integrity.
What is interesting about this business is that it does not involve continually selling products.
If you take a look at this web site www.iolair.acnrep.com you will see an overview of the business and if you do not live in the UK click on your country's flag which can be accessed at the bottom of the page.

Anyone who has stayed a step ahead of the baby boomers has experienced phenomenal profits.
In the late 40's and 50's it was Gerber baby food. The 60's was Fisher Price and Mattel, the 70's was Real Estate, etc. Any one of these companies had an 18 year window of opportunity by supplying what the boomers needed at the time.
What they are looking for now is health and anti-aging. It is fast becoming a trillion dollar industry.
I have a home business marketing only one product. Sales have doubled every year with this product in the U.S., and in Canada, sales quadrupled last year! We were named the fastest growing company in the Direct Sellers Association, and the reason is our product. It is proving itself over and over again, by helping people with a variety of health issues, helping athletes cut their recovery time in half and giving them endurance and stamina, and prevention of disease. All very important issues in today's world.

It depends on your amount of capital available to invest.

If you have access to 1-2 million, buy a Mc'D's or similar franchise.

If you're a paycheck-to-paycheck person looking to have their own business grow on the side until it can support you, I'd recommend what I'm doing.
