Most fish don't get pregnant, they just get fat when they are producing eggs. They lay they eggs and the male fertilizes them.

This is the proper way of answering your question correctly. Yeah. Female goldfish will have bigger bellies than males, They are the same size in length inches. But females will always have bigger stomachs. Simple as that. Did I answer your question?

Of course goldfish get pregnant! How do you think they reproduce? Anyway, how you tell the difference between a male and female if that the female will be slightly chubbier than the male. If you have a tank at home and you would like to tell who is what, you will have to bring the fish to the pet store and compare your fish to the store's fish. I would ask an employee about it though! But to breed them is simple; you put a male and female in a tank together and let nature take its course...but, be careful!! If you have even a slight thought your fish is pregnant, make sure there is a bubble nest. (the fish will make them themselves.) YOU NEED A BREEDING BOX for when the babies are born. make sure you have one with a hole at the bottom just large enough for the little ones. they need to escape from the larger fish. if you ever see any babies in that breeding box make sure to feed them...unless you have been feeding them a lot. By the way, just because a fish is fat doesn't mean she/he is pregnant. Hope my advice has helped!~Kathryn-a.k.a.- Fish L-O-V-E-R

Fish breed in many ways, and yes you can watch. In fact, watching fish breed is one of the great fascinations in the hobby because there are so many interesting breeding strageties among fish.
There are two main strategies that fish use: egglaying and livebearing.
Livebearing fish do what the name suggests. The female gives birth to fully formed, free-swimming young. The female fish is internally fertilized by the male fish, and carries the fry for about a month before delivering them. Upon delivery, the babies swim off, hide, and begin searching for food.
Livebearers include the popular mollies, platies, swordtails, and guppies. Other livebearers are halfbeaks, anableps, and fish in the Goodeid family. They are easy to sex, as the female is larger, and the male has a rod-like anal fin called a gonopodium that he uses to internally fertilize the female. After fertilization, the female can produce multiple batches of babies without a male present.
Egglaying is also what the name suggests: the fish lay eggs instead of giving birth to little fish. As the fish grow, they hatch into fry with an attached yolk sac, and then mature into fish. The process usually takes around a week to 10 days, although it can vary widely.

Goldfish are egglayers, so they don't get "pregnant", exactly. They will get larger abdomens when they're coming into breeding season.
You goldfish is just as likely to be one of the types that are supposed to have a big belly - orandas, black moors, fantails, ryunkin, lionheads, ranchus, and others will always look "pregnant" - even the males. The absolute worst in this category are the pearlscale goldfish - they look like they're about to burst!
You may also be feeding the goldfish very well (lol). Don't give them more than they can eat in about 3-5 minutes.

Yes they can become pregnant.
Having a big belly could mean a lot of different things though.
1. Pregnancy
2. Overeating
3. Tumors (they can be prone to them, like Koi)
4. Possibly air in the belly

you could be feeding it too much or it could be sick.that's the first sign of dropsy, which is a sickness where their belly gets big and then their scales pop out, it's very fatal. i would do some research on fish sicknesses.
