You can get a restraining order for a period of 10-20 days without a hearing. My state has forms you can fill out, so you don't even need a lawyer to get a temporary restraining order. Don't know about your state. However, if the other party gets a lawyer, you should get one also. If the restraining order is violated, the person will be arrested and held for a hearing before a judge. A permanent restraining order will be issued after a brief hearing that gives the Judge an opportunity to figure out what should be in the permanent Order. That covers the harassment. Slander is a tort. The act of slander is an unusual tort in that you do not have to prove the amount of damages. The fact of damages is presumed, which is great for you. Slander cases are contingency fee cases, so if your lawyer thinks he/she can win, your up-front costs will be low. You can recover all your costs and atty fees in a slander case.

You could confront them; they would probably deny it but it might make them uncomfortable knowing that you knew who was doing it.
You could sue them, only if you could get enough people willing to back you up in court & you could provide proof.
You could call the phone company & ask them to help you, they would probably tell you just not to answer the phone & the party would tire of bothering you & stop. Or you could go to the police & explain what was happening, they can order a trace on incoming calls to your phone. Harrassment is illegal.

A restraining order will stop the phone call ... and people will know the other person is the cause of the problem, so what they are saying isn't true.

Them calling you and insulting you is not slander. To be able to prove slander you have to prove a malicious intent to publically harm your reputation(not the exact term) and its hard to prove.

Take him to court, slander him back, or bring a few of your buddies over and knock on his door to let him know you mean business.

1) First, start sending some cease and dessist letters (see link below)
2) If that does not work , hire a reasonable or even free attorney to draft a notarized cease and desist letter or even a threat to sue. (see link below)
