You probably mean Bosnia. Bosnia was a part of Yugoslavia which broke into pieces after Tito, who was their main Communist leader, died. Civil war broke out between the Serbs, Croats, and Muslims to simplify it a little.

New countries were formed. So you can't understand anything about Bosnia without understanding the above and also the fact that Tito kept the different peoples and regions of Yugoslavia from fighting among themselves but with him gone, the different groups started fighting for power.

There is still tension between Muslims and Serbs in Bosnia.

This question is best answered by an old saying: "Those who ignore the past have no future." I believe it says a lot about conflicts in other countries, as well.
