I imagine what it means is a woman with the maturity of a child; it seems to make sense.

In old literature, a woman-child or a man-child were either simply children (the woman or man part referring to their sex) or like someone else said, a teen or who was still a child, but almost grown.

It usually refers to a very young woman who still has one foot planted in childhood and one in adulthood. Think of a 15 year old who is becoming more womanly (whether she wants to or not) but is still very naive. This is a time when a young woman can very quickly find herself in a situation she doesn't know how to handle, even though, sometimes, she initially encouraged it.

I think maybe it has to do with a lolita--a young girl who tries to be a woman, dresses like a woman (and ends up attracting psychos).

think Marilyn Monroe types..that want a Daddy figure to take care of them, usually to make up for their real Father abandoning them as children...halts their sexual maturity.
