Is it true that there is a law in the state of New Jersey that says before you sell someone a house you must tell them if the house is haunted? Also, if someone died in the house do the buyes have to be made aware of this?

I tried...and would have gotten away with it if it weren't for those meddling kids and pesky dog.

In many states they require such a disclosure but just because someone died in the house does not mean it will be haunted. Oddly enough though in almost every haunted house someone did die an untimely or horrible death. I have toured thousands upon thousands of houses and some have had a weird feeling in the air. I don't believe in ghosts but do believe there are some people that attract a dark side. Once a person allows their mind to think somethings wrong, they will look at everything differently. Informing someone that a person died in the home can be no big deal to some, and a deal killer to others. If a house truly is haunted it shouldnt be sold, it should be burned down and the land donated to the city.

That used to be the case, you used to have disclose things like that, death, and if someone with aids lived there. However in recent years those mandatory disclosures have been abolished. I am not sure on the case that set this precedent but remember reading it through law school

I am not sure about NJ, but in my state you do not have to disclose a death in a home or if its "haunted" unless you are directly asked by the buyer. Plus haunted is a tougher thing to decide than if a death occurred there.
Good luck

Your real estate agent should know if there are any laws pertaining to these items. I don't think you should have to tell if its haunted but a death might be something different. Just ask your agent.
