If not the Brewers than who will win and why?

The Brewers have something that no one else in the NL Central has (pitching depth). They have somewhere around 8 pitchers that could fill in the starting rotation. There bullpen is a powerfull bullpen with 5 pitchers who can throw in the high 90's, and one of those pitchers can throw 100mph. Followed by a change-up specialist. They have a proven Closer in Cordero.

The Brewers batting Line-up will be one of the most feared line-ups in the game. They have Prince Fielder who hit 28 homeruns last year in his 1st year in the Majors. They have Bill Hall who hit 30+ homeruns last season. They have Rickie Weeks who has the fastest bat in the game today, and who is said to have more power then Prince Fielder, and he can steel bases, because he is real fast. They also have Corey Hart who is a contact hitter who has a ton of power, and is fast. The Brewers also have J.J. Hardy who is already a great defensive SS. The Brewers also aquired Johnny Estrada who is a career .300 hitter, and who is good behind the plate.

Ryan Braun who is a big power hitter and a very big offensive threat will probibly start the year at 3B. He is only in his early 20's.

The only problem that I see with the Brewers is LF. There will probibly be a platoon of Jenkins/Mench, but that is it.

So, the reason why I pick the Brewers to win the NL Central is, because they don't have any holes in there roster and they have a ton of depth with a ton of talanted players. Not to mention one of the best Minor League Systems in the game. They are going to be good for years to come.

This division, top to bottom, has tremendous parity. I would give the Brewers as good a chance as anyone to win it because they have the right mix of good starting pitching and youth. They remind me a bit of the Tigers last year and I think they could be the real surprise in the league this season.

That being said, it's a long summer, and the veteran's on the Cardinals proved last year that when they put everything together they can outscore anyone and get on a nice winning streak. Their problem however is, like the Astros and Cubs, beyond their number one and two starters they get pretty thin in the rotation (my guess is that Roger signs with the Yankees).

I also like the Reds this year and think they could finish top three in the division again although it's more likely that they finish fourth. The Cubs are always a wild card, but even with all their moves/spending I don't give them much of a chance with the injury prone Prior and Woods in the rotation.

Here are my picks for the division:

1. St. Louis
2. Milwaukee
3. Chicago
4. Cincinnati
5. Houston
6. Pittsburgh

It all starts with pitching, and in that regard, the Brewers have as good a chance as anyone to win the division.

However, it's because of pitching that I say the St. Louis Cardinals will once again win the NL Central. On paper, Milwaukee looks like they have better arms, but paper doesn't account for the wisdom of Dave Duncan.

Slim to none. The Cubs have a great lineup (Lee, Ramirez, Soriano, Floyd, Barrett, Jones, Izturis) and a pretty good rotation with Zambrano, Lilly, Marquis, Hill, and a healthy Prior. They only need 90 wins and will easily win the division over the Cardinals who dont have much left, the young and crappy brewers, the pitiful pirates, and the Clemens-less astros. This is the cubs year.

I just got a hunch Cubs 1st, Cardinals 2nd by 1 game, Brewers 3rd 5 games out. The Cubbies will lose to the Braves in the NLCS in 5 games.

Sorry, Brewers fans but until Albert Pujols retires, the Cardinals will win the division. Oh, yeah and the Cardinals still have Chris Carpenter.

As a Cardinal fan, I think the Brewers have a real shot this year. I think they have the best pitching staff (Sheets, Capuano, Suppan, Bush, and Vargas) in the division this year.

The young talent is amazing, with Weeks, Fielder, and Hart. Mix in Estrada, Hall, Hardy and they have a nice balanced lineup. Turnbow and Cordero in the pen.

I see it falling out this way:
Brewers
Cardinals
Astros
Cubs
Reds
Pirates

They have a grat shot, if everyone stays healthy. Solid pitching, young talent, some power out of hall and fielder, only question in my mind is at third base.
