He is of both African and European descent. However, he is easily identifiable as black because of his obvious features. What does it matter what you call him? As long as you respect him as a person for his character and not the color of his skin, (which is something he cannot change) I think this should have nothing to do with his candidacy. As for the name, as a baby it's not like he could have said, "No Mommy, don't name me Barack Hussein Obama! The politicians will call me an Islamo-fascist!" Geeze, gimme a break here.

It has nothing to do with color...only his position, which we will learn more about as time goes on. The media is full of it, as usual and plays on peoples emotions. It a load, that's for sure.
As far as religion goes, I think people have a tendency to worry a little because his father was a radical Muslim...and his mom an atheist. People sometimes prefer a president with a solid belief system.
I am also a white Roman Catholic, and not that it matters because God loves all his children, Obama included. He's never done anything detrimental. It's just some of his comments against the current administration are a little too early in the game, for me. This shows a tendency to be mouthy at the wrong times. I understand that everyone wants a solution to the war, but he calls for too much too soon. Also he is already introducing legislation on a tax increase. He has just barely had extended experience as a Senator and needs much more before he would get my backing.

I am not sure the media is going on a witch hunt regarding Obama's ethnicity, except maybe FOX News. The Islam connection is grossly misstated by right wing members of the Y!A Politics community. Every potential candidate has things in his/her past that can be used against them. The Muslim school is the best the conservatives currently have to use against Senator Obama.

They reason for your first question is because unfortunately if you're a mixed race person in America you're still treated as if you're black, it's a societal fault that has gone on for years, try having his skin color and driving through a gated community, you're going to get pulled over for driving while black, as far as the witch hunt goes the media only reports what is being hyped and the republicans tried to make this an issue by falsely accusing him of attending a Madrassa which has been thoroughly debunked

He's black cuz that's how he is/will be percieved by ALL "non-black" people (unfortunately). Even people with a black grandmother/father ONLY are still considered "black". It's a proud ancestry.
Why care about his muslim "connection"? He's a methodist or something. His politics are what should matter. President G.W. Bush is proud of his "christian" connection, and draws it into his politics; look where that got us.
I'm black and "christian", not that it matters
BTW, it's Obama
You're welcome

1)Why does anyone care if he is balck or white. When there is an orange candidate then that will start the tongues wagging. How about calling him Rep. Obama from Illinois?
2) His muslim connection is just an opportunity to sling mud and I bet its being touted just as much by the Clinton camp as from anybody. He is going to regret challenging her. He may be done in politcis if he doesn't bend to her early.
Who cares if your white, but Roman Catholic? Shouldn't you be feeling guilty and in church?

Oh gee I was wondering when we would finally get an Obama question.
I don't know why they call him black. Who cares. His Muslim connect is a concern to many. Christians and Jews are not beheading people around the world in the name of god,nor have they called for a jihad. Personally I don't like his politics. He embodies everything I am against.

I think a person of mixed racial ethnicity can pretty much identify himself anyway he wants.

The only thing that I care about Obama is is ULTRA LIBERAL voting record. He has soothing speech but the record speaks for itself. Don't listen to what politicians say but watch what they do and where they place their votes. Only this will determine the direction in which he wants to take the Cojntry.
