I took my boat to have a head gasket repaired. Got the boat back dealer made mention of difficulty to shift to revers.Didn't have problem prior to repair. Now hard to place in reverse, engine idles and then skyrockets on it's own. Throttle linkage disengages when placed in reverse, at wits end. Need help to maintain sanity

Mercman is unable to answer at this time, but we all miss him on this site. Your problem is an adjustment on your shift rod I suspect. It's that 2 piece rod that you see running between the engine and the transom bracket. If it's out of adjustment it can bine the shift lever and cause that problem. They probably got it out of adjustment replacing the water pump. Be care full not to kink your shift cable they'll tell you they are not responsible.

take it back to the dealership and see what they say its hard cause i cant see it sounds like a gear in the control box is bad
