I want to be certain, since I read signs that even pretending to buy tobacco products is illegal and I'm wondering if that can also apply to lighters. I don't want to be in court.

I believe that you have to be 18 to purchase a lighter (I was carded at the grocery store for buying one of those long necked lighters for grilles).
Ask your parents if you need it that badly.

I know in certain stores, at least where I live they make you have to be 18 before you can buy a lighter or even spray paint.

There are no restriction on buying lighter that I know of. Lighters are good for more than just lighting cigarettes and cigars.

Don't know the age for that. Why would you need a lighter if you can't buy smokes?

At any age, if you're atleast fourteen though, then the Store clerks or who ever won't say or do anything. It's not illegal to buy Lighters/Matches. But they won't sell anything that contains tabacco or alcohol to you unless you're of age with verification.

You HAVE to be 18 and be able to prove it. I've worked at Kmart and convenience stores. Lighters are just like buying cigarettes.

You could buy a lighter. Even if you couldn't, you wouldn't go to court.
