So don't celebrate it. Why do people have to make this holiday about giving gifts and spending money? Why can't people just be happy they have someone on valentines day to celebrate it with in the first place.
My fiance lives 4 thousand miles away from me and I don't get to celebrate holidays with him. Instead we celebrate the fact that we're together and that we love each other.

How about fixing him his favorite dinner, and a movie rental for afterwards. Maybe a bottle of wine.. Even just a little heart shaped box of candy.
Or, if you want something special, maybe the 2 of you should talk over the possibilities. Could be something as simple as going out for a walk, or out to a movie.

What should you do? Love him anyway...appreciate what you DO have, and realize that not celebrating a commercialized holiday doesn't detract from how you care about one another, the good times you have had, and the good times that lie ahead.
I'd much rather my significant other let me know he loves me "just because" than on Valentine's when it's expected and nearly obligatory...it means so much more when it comes from the heart, not the calendar or pocketbook.

I wouldn't sweat it. There's WAY too much empasis put on the "cough-cough" HOLIDAY anyway. Rent a movie, buy a cheap bottle of wine and spend the evening just being together...what isn't SPECIAL about that?

The question is why don't you have any money? On a salary of 35,000 if you invest your money wisely , 20 yrs gone by you can turn that into 1.3 million tax free easily. I'm talking a measely 5k a year into investments. Perhaps then you can get a decent gift for v-day. or Perhaps you need the assistance of a Strategic Analyst like myself to show you financial light.
