Cassiopeia is a constellation, and not an object in space like a star. Each of the stars and objects in Cassiopeia has a different distance from Earth.
Cassiopeia, like most constellations in the Northern Hemisphere on Earth, has taken its name from ancient Greek mythology. Cassiopeia was a queen, the queen of Ethiopia and according to mythology she was put in the heavens upside down as a punishment from the god Poseidon.
