Well, no. At the same time, why do very healthy people in their 40s,and 50s pay ridiculously health insurance premiums? I was paying monthly premiums equivalent to my rent-yet have never beeen in the hospital-and the only prescriptions I've taken were painkillers for dental work-only once! A friend paying the premiums is being "treating" for inoperable cancer-and in 3 months, her portion(that insurance won't pay) is $27,000. I can't imagine what young people will do at the cost medical care today
Do you believe your income will be high enough to pay for medical costs(now almost $20,000 for a family of four-at the current rate-double that in 6 years)??. Maybe it's fair to have the upper middle class just die. And only the upper class(5% make over $100,000 a year, 1.5% over $250k) You will have to decide.

Universal health care should be provided to all. The benefit for deciding to live a 'healthy' lifestyle is longevity. At some point you will need health care no matter what type of lifestyle you choose. The feeling of being ten feet tall and bullet proof will go away the moment you are faced with a catastrophic illness, injury, or disease. The trick here is to figure out what is affordable and what parts of the health care system should be regulated. I personally don't have much faith that either party is going about this in the right way.

It's a complicated question. First off, no one should have it "free" unless everyone does. Because healthy people get plenty of problems. Young men, in particular, are most prone to sports injuries and ETOH-related problems.
But you also have to balance all of this with the implied "social contract" that you and your family will get a basic level of care no matter what. So you aren't just paying for your care. Your paying for your mom's too. And the disabled child you might someday have.
But I totally agree with the idea of rewarding people who work to preserve their health in some way. The easiest way to do this, I think, is to MEGA-tax those products that eventually cause health problems. There is no way a Big Mac should cost less than $20 or $25, there is no way that a bottle of voldka should cost less that $100. That is where the extra money for "lifestyle" medicine should come from.

You've got a good point. That might be a great incentive to get free health care. It's mainly lazy azzes, and illegals that get free health care now, and it's a burden on America in many aspects. That's why the hospitals charge those of us whom pay for health care 8 bucks for an aspirin.

A tad bit discriminating isn't it? Who are you or I to say someone is not living a healthy lifestyle......
Then for us who have disabilities in our families etc. Why should we be charged more for health care, I no for a fact it is not my child's fault he has health problems. Is it anyones fault for having health problems.
In another 20 - 30 years think about this question, then ask yourself again Should healthy people be aloud free health care? Healthy people get sick too.

I don't believe anyone is entitled to free health care! It should be pay as you go. County hospitals that don't even ask people if they have the ability to pay, or don't even ask people if they have health care insurance, should be burned to the ground.
This is not a socialist country. The goddamn losers who believe they are entitled to have everything free, should go live in Venezuela, N.Korea, Mexico, or Indonesia. Let us know how living is there, once you're settled in, maybe you will learn the value of paying your own way.

Healtyhy people rarely need health care. Then there are those who are healthy but think they are sick (hypochondriacs). Then there are those brought up on welfare that expect to get 'free' health care for life, even if they can well afford it themselves or can get it through a job.
Would you give up 50% of your paycheck to give 'free' health care? That's what it costs in the few countries that do have it. Nothing is free!

It is pre emptive health care and it is a very good idea. Every other western country does this, if you look after people on aregular basis, you catch all the little minor things along the way. Before minor health problems turn into full blown crisis....Mary

Its allowed not aloud, and no one has the right to judge whether or not someone has a healthy lifestyle in order to receive health care..,that it called socialism. Are you also for euthanizing the mentally challenged or those like Terry Schiavo who couldnt speak for herself.I guess people felt she was a life not worth saving..,makes me sick to my stomach that we have come to this.

Nothing in the world is free. Even if you are healthy you probably still visit the doctor once in a while. Who will pay your doctor?
If you're very healthy and you don't want to chip in for the treatment of unhealthy people then don't buy insurance - just self-insure.
