to be a playoff team in the NHL, how much points do you need?

To be precise with this question....
you need to have enough points, so that no more than 7 teams in your conference have more.

A certain number of points are not required to make the playoffs. The top 8 team in each conference will proceed to the playoffs. In fact, depending on the conference/league, a team with a mediocre point performance could make it to the playoffs.

You can have any amount of points, one team might have 20 points and make it another might have 90 and make it. The top 8 teams from each conference(eastern conference & western conference) goes to the playoffs. For a grand total of 16 teams! Also, GO SAN JOSE SHARKS!!!

8 teams in each Confrence make it. The top in each division are seeded 1-3 based on their points. Then 4-8 are seeded by who has the most points after the division leaders. So really you have to have the (8th) most in your Confrence. I put it that way because it is possiable, all be it rare, that a division leader is behind the Wild Card teams by a bit. Southeast Division like 10 years back comes to mind.

There are no limit of points. Teams just have to be in the top eight of the conference to make it to the playoffs. GO CANUCKS GO!!!!

i would have to say u need at least 90 points to be close or even be a playoff team.

I have seen a few teams get in with 85 in the past, I would say this year teams would need 89-93 to get in.

You need enough points to rank in the top eight teams of either the east or west divisions.

I think the magic number this year will be between 90-95 points.
