Yes, Yes, Yes !
It is true our awareness of thought, negative or possitive will allow us to associate thought patterns with our emotional state of the heart. Lets just assume there is a person who has never experienced any sort of negative emotional experience; anger, fear, sadness. Lets assume this person has only experienced love and joy throughout their whole existence with absolutly no occurences to feel any thing else but love and joy. Then something happens, to bring fear, sadness and perhaps anger into the persons life and life will never be the same because now there is a choice in every moment there after ! The immidiate choice must be to honor those feelings, they are part of being human. The next choice must be to heal find acceptance of what has happend. Then one must have the desire to move on and resume to create an emotional balance of acceptance love and joy. I choose love and joy ! It was ok to feel sadness and anger but today, right now , I choose love and joy ! I choose to see, aknowledge, appreciate all that is good in my life. I am greatful, I am lucky, I am safe, I am happy to be alive, I am loved, and wow when I think of (........) it makes me feel so happy and content I want the whole world to feel this way !
What if the broken record got stuck on I am happy, I am happy, I am happy, first thing in the morning, our emotional experience would be quite different than today is goin to be awful, awful, awful. Be aware, stop it, make a choice for possitive thoughts and practice, practice, practice. Try to listen to your thougts for one day, when alone, while you are at work, at school, with friends ! Carefully listen... then the next day be aware and choose your thoughts infuse them with love light and laughter, compasion and well wishes for everthing you encounter !
Feel the difference and make a choice from then on moment by moment. Embrace all experiences, for all of them will bring you more awareness to make this choice for a loving & happy emotional state of body mind and spirit, your soul purpose.
Let you heart beam and glow with warm fuzziy feelings !
Namaste !

Well, would boredom be the absence of thought then? This isnt true because I can think something about someone or something at a certain time, but totally feel the opposite way. I can control from being negative if I truely focus on staying how I was before.
Its true that you must be aware of your negative thoughts but if something angers me..I will usually get angry. You can let negativity control you or become you based on your willpower and how you want to feel about the situation at hand. if my head thinks its wrong, then so will my heart.

How do negative thoughts flow into my heart?
Any thought(s) tend to remain in my head. My heart is for pumping blood.
Awareness allows you to be aware of the negative thoughts but what allow you to do anything about it?

It would be ideal, but not easily achieved for most humans. We have instincts and those instincts help us logically think of all scenerios and that includes many negative thoughts. Would we appreciate positive thoughts and endurance if we didn't experience negative thoughts. I don't think so. The negative thoughts could not be cut off, but one does have the ability not to dwell on it and let your heart become consumed with the negative thoughts. Focusing on the positive is the key.

True. On occasion, if I begin to dwell on negative thought I can easily get caught in a depression. But I have to cultivate the negativity and on some level want it. On the other hand, I can recognize when I do this, and I know a few songs that I will start thinking of or singing to myself, and they help me get back into a positive or at least a neutral frame of mind again. Thoughts may not always be able to control emotions, but they can help guide them.

--That is a good thought, but none of us have complete control over negative thoughts. They might creep into our hearts through a dream, nightmare, movies, books!
--Although it is very important to not let them dominate, because indeed they can make monsters out of us in many different ways
Interestingly, when the religious leaders were trying to condemn Jesus disciples for eating certain foods, note please his response:
(Matthew 15:17-19) “17Â Are YOU not aware that everything entering into the mouth passes along into the intestines and is discharged into the sewer? 18Â However, the things proceeding out of the mouth come out of the heart, and those things defile a man. 19Â For example, out of the heart come wicked reasoning's, murders, adulteries, fornications, thieveries, false testimonies, blasphemies.”

Being aware of positive and negative doesn't always allow you to sever the negative. Unemotional logic, if you allow it, will help. Since we are not Vulcan, emotional logic will have to do.

I disagree because it is impossible to filter your "thoughts" to only allow in the good. It goes back to the strength of emotion. Happiness is brought on by emotions, and the stronger your emotions are, the greater your happiness is, but once made sad by something, your sadness is also greater because of the strength of the emotions. You cannot make one emotion powerful and weaken another. They are all equal. You can only decide how strong they are. If you have weak emotions, you have little happiness, and if you have strong emotions, your sadness is horrible. Each has its downsides, but it has good sides too and you have to pick which you would prefer.

Cool quote. Probably true. I think negative thoughts & feel depressed/stressed etc. If I can force myself to think positive, happy thoughts then it translates into feeling a little better. It works in reverse as well: if you force yourself to smile physically then you start to feel happier & think more positive things mentally...
