Last year I discovered that my bottle of VO5 shampoo had lasted just over one year. Amazed by this, I documented the date of my last purchase (June 4 2006) and today I am about 2/3 finished with it. Amazing - especially since I got it on sale at Safeway for $1.
By the way, I keep my hair about 1/4 in length year-round.
Hope that helps!!?! After reading your question, I was suprised I had my own shampoo experiment to share.
Good luck!

If you are able to use people in your study (Some science fairs you cannot use people or animals). I would say do a blind comparison on two brands of shampoo, XYZ Generic Brand, fruit-scented and Name Brand fruit-scented. (Or cheapest and most expensive that smell the same). Put them in blind bottles labeled A and B and ask participants to use one for a week and then the other for a week and answer:
Which one did you like the best, and why?
Then ask other questions like:
Sex, age, how often they wash their hair, did one smell better, was thicker/thinner, and a "comments" spot. You'll need a lot of participants though to make it valid. For instance, your entire class and their parents maybe?
You'll also need a "waiver" or something to that affect in case they get a rash or something...

oh, some of my friends just did this for their G4 projects. You could try to see how long and how much of the type of shampoo or shampoos you are testing is beneficial to your hair, and not ruin it by structurally, chemically, etc...

You could see how well it works on color-treated hair. If, over a period of time, the color fades a lot, or if the shampoo helps to maintain the color.
