i remember watching this comedian who seemed really depressed and he was on letterman back in the 80's so this was filmed a while ago. he was really witty but acted really bummed out. he had a low voice and talked kind of slow. he had frizzy hair but was balding.

I think you are speaking of Steven Wright. Hilarious comedian. So dry and understated. Check this picture of him below.

Hope that helps!

Stephen Wright. he actually has quite a lot of material and a lot of stand up appearances. If you liked him in a few minute segmment on Letterman you'd love his standup specials.

I think Steven Wright- fits the description.

He usually says really witty one-liners, and doesn't tell big stories.

The porn call formula works nicely. Take the call of your first domestic dog and the call of the line you grew up on and placed them on the comparable time. Mine could be Martian Fruitdale. If it would not sound good, opposite them or blend them with Mikey or your middle call.

Emo Philips comes to mind. He acted depressed, talked slowly and quielty, but was very funny.
I haven't seen him on any program for a number of years.
Maybe he is who you were thinking about.
