My 4 month old has always taken a 45 minute morning nap. However, for the past 2 days he is sleeping for 2.5 hours in the morning. Should I be worried or thrilled? Why the sudden change? He is not sick or teething.

He is probably just going through a growing spurt. My son does the same thing. He will sleep longer and can't get enough to eat. I just let him sleep and keep feeding him. growing spurts come and go. Don't worry.

At 4 months old, you sure he's not starting to teeth. Babies tend to change their sleeping habits a bit, adjusting to sleeping more at night then a longer nap time to stay awake more in the evening.
BUT, if you see any other changes like sleeping even longer for no reason or having a temp or not having a healthy appetite then I would consult a Dr., besides this is just the beginning of changes that you'll see.

He may be going through a "growth spurt". My pediatrician agrees with my grandmothers about this one. Usually during a period of time when a baby or child is growing at a faster rate than usual, he will sleep more and maybe even eat more. I know my kids' sleep patterns changed considerably even from week to week during their first year. Mine would go through periods of not sleeping very much to sleeping all the time in just a few days. My kids are now 5 and 6 and their sleep patterns are still not always the same from week to week. Weather, changes in environment, and even introducing new foods (such as baby cereal) can affect sleep patterns. I also remember that when we introduced baby cereal along with breast milk for the first time, my oldest daughter slept through the night for the first time and took longer but less frequent naps during the day because she was more satisfied than and did not feel hungry as often. If you are really worried, never hesitate to contact your pediatrician as no question is considered paranoid to a parent of a baby!

With our young toddlers, we've observed that previous due afternoon naps harm nighttime-time relax on an identical time as early to mid-afternoon naps do no longer. retaining the youngsters bodily energetic and exposing them to diverse environments each and every day (backyard, walk, playground, library) seems to work together their minds and their bodies in a effective way. while little ones drop from 2 naps to a minimum of one or from one to 0, it incredibly is annoying for the parent to settle for it in the event that they have been in accordance with particularly peace and quiet or they planned to get something carried out. yet scuffling with that style isn't productiveness. little ones needless to say want fewer naps as they age. because of the fact the naps cut back, the nighttime-time sleep could because of the fact longer. -David in Alaska

My child is 19 months and still takes 2-3 hour naps. Your baby is just growing. Don't worry, everything is fine.

I wouldn't worry about it one bit. It just means he needs a little extra sleep. Be happy to have the free, quiet time. Soon, he'll be outgrowing the morning nap!
