have a laptop, Sony Vaio. I have no instruction CD or manual. It was a gift. It was emptied of all unnecessary information. I had a start key at first now I don't. What happened?

hit the windows button on your keyboard its between the CTRL and ALT keys on the bottom left side of your keyboard.

If that dosent work(you may have tried this) just restart your computer it should still work.

as for how it dissapeared many things could have done it such as a pop-over(type of nasty pop-up). to anything as bad as deleting the system file that controlls it

sometimes when you end a task using task manager it makes it dissapear.

If you can't fix it and don't want it anymore you can give it to me(smile).

Thats weird. Press Control + Escape then u shud see the start dialogue box popping up. Once it is up, then u can restore it by clicking on it and moving it.

Or, it might be at the bottom of ur screen. Try moving ur mouse there and if it turns into a resizing handle then resize it to restore ur task bar. Once u restore it, u can customize it by going to the control panel- taskbar and start menu.

Hope that helps

Place your mouse at the bottom of the screen to ensure that the task bar has not be set to auto hide. See if it appears.
It not got to Control panel and select Task bar / Start bar from the options. Then tick lock tool bar on desktop and keep on top of all over applications.
