D'ohhh! 'Homer' ( just in case you hadn't already
guessed ) is pulling your leg. Though, actually, little
did he know it, his logic isn't that far out when he
refers to 'packets'. Hi-level Physics there, Homey. :o)
Hertz is frequency. Imagine you were push-biking
along .. say the time it took for your left foot to
complete one full circle was 1 second. Your pedals
would be going at 1 hertz.
Now, a bit like Superman, say you could actually
complete 1,000,000,000 of those full circles in 1
second? That would be 1 Ghz
Translating it to computers, 1 hz =1 instruction per
second, i.e. adding 1+1 to make 2, would be one
instruction. Easy enough huh? Ok, now imagine that
same machine adding 1,000,000,000 instructions in
1 second. Fast eh?
Most people use it as a measure of speed, which it
isn't really. It matters not whether its a laptop or
any other computer.
HTH. See the link below for more indo.

GHz is the spped of your hardware (probably the processor in this case). In order to get more you would need to get a new processor, this in turn may require a new motherboard and memory.
On a laptop this would be extremely difficult. You may be able to get a faster processor of the same type you have at the moment but I would suggest against doing this. Faster processors generate more heat and laptops may not handle the faster processor.

Gigahertz (GHz) simply means the speed of your laptop processor. In laymans terms it is the ability of your laptop on how fast it can process information & in this GHz they are measured. Like searching for files, downloading information, etc. The faster the better. Its not a software that you can download. Its a computer electronic chip. You can buy it but better to leave it to proffesional because they are the one who can decide if your laptop can accept a faster processor.

GHz means giga harz. 1024Mega makes 1 Gega.
for your laptop it is the processor speed. if the processor speed is 1 Giga, it means this processor can perform 10 ^ 9 instructions par secound.
you can update your processor if the bus system and other component of motherboard support it.
