Porcupines have an elaborate ritual before sex but when it comes to the deed itself, both animals relax their quills which flatten out and the male mounts the female from behind - as most mammals do. The male is in no danger of being speared by the quills which do not get in the way.

They, and hedgehogs, are placental mammals not monotremes and do not lay eggs. Echidnas, spiny anteaters, are monotremes and do lay eggs after having sex with the same caution as the porcupines and hedgehogs.

I dont know about porcupines, however they have less of their body covered in spined compared to hedgehogs, so probably easier for them and I would guess a similar method.

Hedgehogs to actually go doggy style, the make hedgehog has a very long penius in proportion to its size which kind of goes under where the spines end.
