My nephew got a degree in communications from a small state college. He got a job selling advertising in radio, then was on the air in radio, then got a job doing PR for a small college, then got a job doing the same thing at a Big Name school and now he makes a pile of money and spends all day arranging visits from really famous people. He totally loves his job.

In this career, it is all about what you have done last. No one cares where you went to school after the first job. It is about the portfolio of events you have coordinated and how well you have succeeded in managing big stories. You have to be very aggressive and creative (he is!), a huge schmoozer (he is!) and kind of a big ego, too (yes, he is!) but it is a really fun job if you are cut out for it!
