The true test of a particular perfume's compatibility with your individual skin pH is to put some on, wait an hour, then ask a friend how the scent smells on you. Since you were the one who put it on, your olfactory will eventually get 'used' to the smell and it won't be as strong to you as it would be to someone who hasn't smelled you. So, when you get your friend to do this for you, ensure they aren't anywhere around you when you are putting on the initial test spray. Most scents have 3 notes to them. The most concentrated of these should be a scent especially pleasing to you. The next decision should be whether this is a 'day' or 'night' scent. Daytime perfume should be very light and near neutral. Remember, what's pleasing to you may be awful to one of your co-workers. Nighttime scents, meant for going out on the town, should be complex and elicit a come-hither response. You can use a little more during the night, but don't overdo it. That bit everyone says about spraying it in the air and walking through it is actually a pretty good method because it will disperse the scent evenly on your body. You may emphasize certain areas such as your pulse points, but remember NOT to overdo it. The scent is meant for people to enjoy when they are in close quarters with you, not for the person across the room to smell it. If you are having a tough time, go to the perfume counters at department stores and ask for help. This is what these folks do for a living, they are extremely knowledgeable. They should have some coffee beans to clear out your olfactory between sniffings, but remember, the way a scent smells on a strip of paper and on your skin will be very different. As one poster said, when you begin to get a fair amount of positive complements from people, you'll know you hit the right one and in the correct proportion.

First go try the perfume on. Make sure you have no other scents on (including strong body lotion) and go to where ever you're getting it. Spray it on your wrists and neck. Don't rub the perfume together - I've heard that can break the scent capsules damaging the scent (whatever that means). Wear it all day and by the end of the day you'll know if it's for you or not. Wear what you like (not what other like) because you're the one who's gotta deal with it all day. Keep in mind that EDT is not as concentrated as EDP (personally, I like EDP because three sprays and I'll be good all day long). Some more tips: keep your perfume bottles out of sun light and use it all within 18-24 months (the scent will start to change - for the worse).

when it feels 'right' on you, it makes you feel good, you love the smell on you when you get the occasional whiff of it as you move. Some perfume smells great when first put on then it makes you feel yucky later, might even give a headache, or it irritates your nose and other senses. When I want a new perfume I always spray abit on me then walk away for about 10 or 15 minutes, then smell it again. If it gives me the 'mm that's nice' factor after my walkabout i go back and buy it. If not, or if other people say pooh whats that pong, then i dont.

I would go with the answers above - when you get complimented

Be careful when being recommended a perfume though because they never smell the same on you as they do on other people

Everytime you go to the mall enter through a department store, try on one perfume and when you leave the mall see if you still like the way it smells on you. Some perfumes smell good on others but not on you, so you have to test them. Good Luck...........

When you receive a lot of compliments from people that YOU smell good (not that your perfume smells good). I love Tova and have gotten compliments from total strangers when I wear it.
