I give my fish around two shakes of food a day, and some of it sinks to the bottom. Is this okay? How can I make sure he eats it?

A betta's stomach is small...try using the pellets. Give it about 6 pieces a day. It is okay. Betta's are strong and they push the rocks if they need to get the food. If the food sinks, the betta can get it. Don't worry. Sometimes you might have to stick the tip of your finger on the suface of the water, infront of the food. The fish will see your finger and it will chase it but dont be scared, when a betta bites you it doesnt hurt at all! The Betta should see the food near your finger. Good Luck!

The best thing to remember is if there is uneaten food after about 2-3 minutes, then your fish is full and that food is going to waste. Not only that, but it will foul his water pretty quickly. It sounds like you are giving him a little too much food. Try only one shake at each feeding and feed him twice a day. If you still have leftovers, make it an even smaller bit of food. One betta doesn't eat much at all.

Good question, it shows your watching him and you care. Best of luck with him!

Well, I have a betta fish and i give it 3-4 pellts daily because many fish die of being over fed. Betta fish live long w/o food, i left mine w/o food for a week and it was perfectly fine. Dont give too much food.

Look at your fish and imagine the size of it's stomach. For one beta a small pinch of food twice a day should suffice. It is better to underfeed than to overfeed.

I give my betta about six pellets once a day but I actualy crush mine not so that is powdery just so it is abit more broken up as I reckon it is better for their digestion and I haven't had any problems. and my fish goes straight up for the food as soon as I put it in so I know she's eating it.

with betas you can get away with feeding them a few pellets everyother day as they are not big fish and don't need to eat a lot at all. plus if you over feed your fish can get ill and you will have to clean his tank alot more often

Basically a betta stomach is the size of his eye ball. Feed him that much once a day 6 days a week. Also look at his belly. A pot belly is sign of overfeeding.

I agree the pellets are easiler - 6 pellets per day is fine.
Remember - its better to underfeed then to over feed. If he isn't eating it then you are over feeding.

Bettas can actually go a few days without eating - so do not worry that you are not feeding him enough.
