well unfortunaltely most people dont punch out the year and month like they should. The best thing to do is take it to auto zone or Napa and have them come out and do a test of the battery. They can tell you the CCA (cold cranking amps) and if it has a bad cell or what not they can tell you that also. Batteries are not that exspensive so any question about it replace it and make sure you punch out the year and month and also keep the receipt

There should be a small round sticker somewhere on the battery, usually on one of the sides of the battery, that will have a letter and a 2-digit number. The letter is the month that the battery was purchased and the 2-digit number is the year. The letters start at "A" and end at "L". ("A" is January, "L" is December)

if the person didn't pull the sticker off the battery at time of sale. (it's a law now, tho never enforced.) they should be a sticker on one side of the battery or an engraving on one side in code. A letter for the month and the year. Letters go order of the alphabet. A-january, B-feb..
So a sticker "F05" is june of 2005.

normaly when you buy a battery, there is a sticker on the top, that you can pull the tabs off of the month and year you bought the battery, if someone did not do this, there is no other way to know.
