think less of what others may think of you, instead do what you love to do and enjoy life as you would want it to be. Be kind to yourself, after all you are your own best friend. Once you are off self flagellation, your self esteem would rise proportionately...guaranteed.

A good beginning is understanding why you need the external validation. Is there something you would like to do/accomplish that you cannot because you don't believe you can? Or because someone else believes you can't?

Attempting and failing gives you valuble life information. Not trying does not tell you anything.

Look in a mirror..."Did I do the best job I could?" "Could I have done better?" "How do I know this?" These are all good opening questions.

Worry less about what others think of you and what you think of you , really. Don't delude yourself. Look at what you've accomplished in your life , not just in your career but in your family and friends relationship.

Do you really think you're worthy of happiness?

Do you think of yourself as a 'poser' who if people knew the real you, you wouldn't be successful?

Do you really walk your walk and talk your talk?
Do you take responsibility for your life and your decisions?
Do you have integrity, can people trust your word and can you trust you?
Are you pro-active in everything you do or are you a reactionary, hateful of other people's successes?

Try reading a book by Nathaniel Brandon called the Six Pillars of Self -Esteem . when you can look at the six pillars and say yes to all of them, then you know you're whole and don't need to rely on external forces to validate you.
