"Little Mermaid" is an animated story-I don't think that is what you are looking for! It's "Intensity"

Plot Summary for
Intensity (1997) (TV)
Chyna Shepherd is a twenty-six-year-old psychology student who survived an extremely troubled past. While visiting Laura Templeton's house, a farm in the Napa Valley. A serial killer named Edgler Foreman Vess breaks into the house, killing Laura and her parents. Chyna survives, but she learns of Vess's captive: a girl, just as innocent as Chyna, trapped in Vess's home far from the Napa Valley. Chyna feels a great sense of responsibility for this girl, and she travels deeper into her nightmare.

i dnt think it's the little mermaid! The girl is called ariel tho. I saw a tv programme where a boy dog was called Ariel! Soz that was random

The film you are looking for, was, - as has, already, been suggested, - called "INTENSITY", - and, YES, - like many of the films, IN that, particular genre, - it WAS based, - albeit, quite loosely, in my opinion, - on the novel, of the same name. And, YES, that person, was correct, - the book was written, by the great Stephen King! That man's a "MASTER", of the art of the "SUSPENSE CHILLER"!
