It would be a really good idea if you NEVER did that again but the schools are going to look at your mark for the year, not your mark for one quarter.

Colleges will look at your unweighted GPA in your core courses. They don't care what you got in art, gym, health etc (unless you are going to art school!) And they understand that you might have had a few adjustment problems as a freshman. So they will look first at your Jr year grades -- that's when you are most mature, most responsible, taking the toughest courses. So if you do well in Jr year that is good, and if you bad in Jr year that is really bad. They will look at Sr courses too, but they will only get to see the first half of the year....

Be business like and take care of all your courses all the time. Then that F thing wont happen again and you wont be all stressed out. A 3.5 in your core courses should get you into Vanderbilt if you have good Extracurriculars and a solid SAT int he Vanderbilt range (check their website).

I am 31 and starting Pre-Med this fall. I have looked at a few Med Schools web sites and this is what I read on Tulane U's site.

They said that it wasn't necessarily bad to have improved grades. I believe that it shows resolve. You made a mistake, but you fixed it instead of letting it continue.

I would think that as long as you don't do it again you should be ok. If it were me, I would give them a reason to overlook the "F". Get your average up, and definately get that B up to an A.

If you raised it to a B, your chances are excellent for getting in. You need high SAT scores and lots of extra curricular activities.

Did the F go on the semister report card? because that's what they look at... and only really prestigious schools go for sophomore grades... It's usually the extracriculars you have at this point. Next year it will screw you over.

If the B replaced the F, your school might not even put it on your transcript, you should ask them.
