I heard from a friend that approximately 200 years ago in England the clocks literally went back by 2 weeks. This was because of fractions of time accumulated over the ages leading up to this. Can any one shed light on this? A web site would be useful

Clocks can't go back two weeks. If so,. it wouldn't just happen in a small area like England, it would have to happen in the entire Universe and if that happened, nobody would realize it and so, it wouldn't be documented. Please don't open your ears to garbage like that.

It depends on what calendar they were looking at.
However it is true that the spin of the earth slows down as the earth becomes heavier as its mass increases.
So as the mass of a moving gravitational mass structure increases its velocity decrease. This is the opposite of special relativity theory which says the inertial mass increases as its velocity increase. With gravity its just the opposite.
As mass increases gravitational time also increases. that means the angular velocity decreases . That is why our present days are longer to day than several centuries ago. This called gravitational time dilation.Therfore irrespective of the calendar system used corrections have to be made.
England was 200 years late to correct their calendar. Neverthe less unless corrections are made time reckonning can be very inacurate.

I haven't heard of this story before. We make up lost time every 4 years in Leap Years. I think this story is a so called Urban Myth.
