High School haunts cinemas
High School Musical, one of the Disney Channel's most successful made-for-TV movies of all time, is making the leap to the big screen.
Disney has announced that the third film in the High School Musical series, Haunted High School Musical, will debut in cinemas in the second half of 2008.
"Given the enormous universal appeal and phenomenal popularity of the High School Musical franchise, we wanted to bring that same energy, excitement and entertainment to the big screen with a unique and original idea," said Oren Aviv, president of production for the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group.
Disney has not confirmed whether High School Musical's original cast or director, Kenny Ortega, will return for Haunted High School Musical.
High School Musical premiered in the US in January 2006 and made its Australian debut in June. More than 100 million unique viewers around the world tuned into the movie, and its soundtrack was one of the biggest selling albums of 2006.
The second film in the franchise, directed by Ortega and featuring all of the original cast, is slated to premiere in mid-2007.
