Hard Drive is " like memory "

So instead of using dvd to record on, you just record on the memory. Saves having to format disc, and find one when in a rush.

You can also recored from the hard drive to dics at a later date.

The hard drive also always you to edit out the adverts, so you get the complete film / proggramme unspoilt.

hope this clears it up

A hard drive is a re-recordable disc. You can record so many hours of recording onto it. Before deciding if you want to keep it or not. If you want to keep it then you should be able to transfer it to a removable disc.
