Got to answer this one literally. I don't buy the "I was so embarrassed I could have died!" kinds of thing - they are figures of speech.

Could have died in car accidents a few times. (one was really close - spun out in circles on black ice across three lanes of traffic during rush hour) Of course it lasted a whole 5 seconds but seemed like alot longer than that due to the powerlessness factor.

Two of my friends and I were walking home from the library late at night. We got assaulted by three guys with knives but ran because we were only a half a block from home. My roommate were out the door mob style within seconds of us getting inside. I didn't sleep that night much if at all - the adrenaline was hit me too hard to relax.

I understand I convulsed as an infant and almost died then.

Those were the close calls, but then you could also say I did die once....

Clinically dead from drowning when I was 6. No breathing, no heart beat, no pupil response, but was resuscitated with CPR.

Once. Literally. I was in a flight Vienna-Madrid when they turned off the tv's and we started to go down, down, down....no one word from anybody, no announcement, no turbulences, nothing. After few minutes we had an emergency landing in Milano Malpensa, with one motor in fire and all kind of ambulances, police, firemen. On those minutes before the landing, nobody screamed, cried or anything, maybe because our plane was rather empty, or because one can't believe this is happening, suddenly you may (probably) die in few minutes, there, alone. I was 18 and I was really in shock. They told us later that the oil of that motor was contaminated, and that we were lucky...

We spend that night in a hotel in Milan and I could not sleep, everything seemed like a dream, and everything was so silent. There I was, by luck, alive, and next morning, that morning, was the most beautiful sun light ever in my life, I felt I had a second chance to continue, I felt like I was born for second time, and I was happy and thankful. I cried for the beauty of life and all the things has to offer to us, big things, little things, daily things, colors, smells and feelings and I felt full and very tiny at the same time. Everything is so relative...

Now I am 31, I live like we all do, sometimes happy, sometimes sad. But sometimes I remember what happened and I still can't believe, we are so lucky to have, at least, one life.

The first time when I was 13, at a swimming hole, 3 big guys held me underwater until they thought i was gone and then left and laughed. I heard them and for some reason got to the surface and made it to shore. Was sick for four days. Second time, flying down to Happy Camp, thought I was the only person in the air, when I got a chill down my spine and a voice in my head said "turn right, right now". Did, found out there was a plane behind me and higher, didn't see me. He went in. When I landed, asked him if had seen me. He said " you were behind ,me, how could I. Had a guardian angel that day.

Once, after having a heavy meal in a hotel with friends,I jumped into the pool to swim and I had a terrible heart spasm. They took me to hospital in an ambulance. On the way to the hospital,I remember thinking this is it I am dying, but I didn't.Doctors managed to start my heart.
After that I learned the lesson that you shouldn't take physical activities (especially swimming)after you have had a meal.

You COULD have died every millisecond of your life. There is no point on counting. You could have spontaneously combusted (no joke).
