Theory says that the universe will explode in perhaps a few million/billion years. People say its because, since the universe is expanding every second (Or so the people say,) there would be a limit. After the limit, everything explodes.

When do you think this would happen?

Just your theory. Im just curious :P

I'm a curious 11 year old, RoAWR >:D

You probably heard about the big crunch theory. That is not an explosion. What happens is the Big Bang is a force causing the Universe to expand, but the counter force of gravity brings matter together. So eventually, the initial force of the Big Bang weakens as gravity slowly takes over. Expansion slows down and then, the process begins to revert again and matter comes back together until it's back to its initial point.
According to this theory, which is not held by a majority of the scientific community by the way, we're talking about 42 billion years.

I've never heard that, and I'm getting a PhD in astrophysics. Maybe you should check your sources. There's no reason for there to be a limit to the expansion of the universe.

EDIT: Baseball and Fyrebyrd are both wrong. The Sun is not going to explode - it's too small. Only large stars explode when they die (and cause very little effect on their galaixes when they do, since the average supernova (star exploding) rate is about 1 per every hundred years in a galaxy that is billions of years old). When the sun dies in about 5 billion years, it will expand it's outer layers, enveloping the inner planets (including Earth) and shed it's layers, leaving a white dwarf where the sun was and a planetary nebula where the rest of the solar system was.

The universe OR the sun? It is true that the universe is expanding, but in my History class we saw a movie made by Steve Hawking. He said that the universe was created by the big bang, and will end with something called the big crunch, when everything comes back together.

Their are plenty of dooms day theory's. You probably heard the Big Rip theory. Here is how it goes: With the forward expansion of the Universe never ending, soon the pull on everything will become to much for atoms to bare. With this, they will be pulled apart. This theory is much discredited due to the laws saying an atom can't be created nor destroyed.

Usually an explosion causes expansion. Expension of Universe has been postulated by the Big atheory of creation.
Unless there are secondary expension(successive expansion one after the other) the Uniververse should remain stable as it is.

what is interpreted as sponteanous expansion of the Universe is really a natural phenomena of gravity that says for a gravitational mass to maintain energy equilibrium needs to expand its orbit radius as its mass is augmented.

The universe already exploded 13.6 billion years ago. In fact that's why it is expanding. We call this the big bang theory.

the expanding universe will continue to accelerate at a faster and faster rate until everything rips apart, all galaxies will fall apart ,the universe will be made up of isolated stars which will run out of energy, some will become brown or white dwarfs, others will collapse into neutron stars or black holes, then thousands of trillions of years after the big bang, the blackholes will evaporate and all matter will decay to its basic ingredient, atoms will fall apart and protons will decay, space will become empty as it was before

My theory is that when the sun starts to die, we will have another ice age. When the sun reaches it's breaking point, it will explode and explode probably all of the planets in the inner ring of planets, maybe farther, out of the galaxy. Then the galaxy would probably compress and explode.

haha
i think you would need to rephrase that
the UNIVERSE is prolly not going to explode but the SUN definitely will in a couple million years

yes, even stars get old and they go KABOOM and then all the gas is compacted together to create a baby star ^_^

universe is EXPANDING?
who told you that?
