Accualy being a dance teacher is great for your body! You stay very skinny also my friend is a dance teacher and she has 2 kids and shes a good teacher she doesn't make great money but its enough to pay the bills! I also think it could be a long term job but you should still go to college and many colleges have dance scolarships! My friend has been a dance teacher for 5 years and she loves it! If dancing is what you love to do then do it!

My neighbor has friends who teach dance for a living...on cruise ships. They are a very good looking couple together and they cruise during winter, have a Cable TV show which is actually very good but doesn't deal 100% with dance...sort of similar to the Morning shows etc.

They also offer dance classes for people held at local centers. So, yes, a life as a dancer can be had depends on what type of dance you are interested in and whether you want to be someone who gets paid to teach in various places or you have a studio of your own.

I also agree dance is great for the body and there are a lot of dancers out there that are proof of that.

Good luck with your decision and career path.

All of those statements are false.

I AM a dance teacher, and it is the most rewarding and amazing job...and I feel so blessed that I can do what I love to do everyday and get paid for it!!

First of all...many colleges offer degrees in dance education. I have my degree in dance education and I teach high school dance during the day...full time. I get normal teachers salary, benefits, insurance, and the summers off to be with my son.

As far as my body goes...I was teaching dance until the day I gave birth to my son and felt great. I lost the weight quickly and am glad to be dancing again. Dancing is great for your body, it keeps you in shape physically and emotionally.

Follow your dreams. Good Luck!

If your passion is in dance, you will be more successful than someone who is doing it for other reasons. Some styles of dance can be harder on your body than others. (i.e. I study and perform Middle Eastern Belly Dance. Turkish style tends to have sharper and more aggressive movements than Egyptian style. Those who perform Egyptian style usually last longer as professional performers than those who perform Turkish style.) If you know the movements very well and execute them properly you should be fine. You won't want to overdo those which may be harder on your body though. It just depends on one's family as to how well you can make things work out. As long as you have help and support it will work. My dance instructor has had different day jobs since I started taking classes with her. She has worked in a school cafeteria. (the timing worked well since her kids were in school while she worked, and she didn't work for all of the same school holidays) The pay depends on where you are and the style(s) of dance you are teaching. Some areas just seem to pay dancers better than others, whether it's teaching or performing.
I do think it's possible to make it work. You just need to have a plan on how to make it work... and always make sure you have alternate options available to you.

Yes, it is definately possible! My history teacher is living proof of that! She personally says that although it doesn't pay very well, it can easily be a supplement to another career (for example, teaching at a school). When you go to college, you might want to try majoring in dance but minoring in some other subject as a backup. But whatever you do, don't give up on your dream!

You can make anything work if you want to. I don't understand how dance could be BAD for your body if anything I would think it would be GOOD for it. Aerobic exercise and all. You could think about being a back up dancer and the dance teacher thing sounds cool too.
