Because in ancient times they considered the beginning of the year to be spring, and the sun is in Aries at the beginning of spring. . .

The trouble is, the sun is no longer in Aries when the astrologers say it is, it's in Pisces. There is a little matter of precession, the 26,000 year wobble of the earth's axis. The zodiac used by astrologers ias 2000 or so years old and everything has moved on. Everyone thinks they know their Sun sign but they don't. For most people it is the one before the one they are told it is. Aries people are Pisceans, Pisceans are Aquarians, Aquarians are Capricorns.

If you don't believe me, do something astronomers do but the astrologers never do - go out and look at the night sky and see where the constellations are.
